Untitled Vessel by Virginia Dotson, Laminated Birch Ebonized, 4 3/4”h x 4 1/2”did
Virginia Dotson's bowls have been exhibited both in the United States and Europe, with a special show in Munich, Germany in 1993. Dotson currently works in Scottsdale, Arizona, and credits this landscape as a major influence: "I am intrigued by the features of the Southwestern landscape, and what they reveal about the past: traces of the sea which once covered the land... chronological arrangements of rock layers in many colors...changing compositions of light and shadow...and the cross-bedding lines left in sandstone by ancient winds." By starting with a laminated, layered block of wood, she tries to release patterns that reveal the past of the wood.
