I turned several forms from a piece of birch, considering ways to stay balanced while moving, for example while walking, stooping, or dancing. This one has a heavy, rounded base that can wobble, with a counterbalance on the top. A bent stem places the center of balance off to one side. It reminds me of stretching out to reach a heavy object on a high shelf.

I am a Vancouver artist, working mostly with sculpture and movement, and sometimes with drawing and print. I studied at Langara College and completed my BFA in visual art at Emily Carr University in 2016. I also have a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Victoria. I bring various materials and found objects together, using vibrant colours, energetic patterns, and automated movements. Movement stands in as a metaphor for life, and the passage of time. I collect and repurpose objects with interesting social histories and local contexts. My work exists in a non-human centric world of living objects and vital materiality. It is informed by inquiries into the metaphysics of objects, the science of systems, and the math of patterns.
