I decided to make another teapot (my 4th), but for a long time could not come up with a good idea. Then one day the words for the song Tea for Two floated into my head. Then I thought of a teapot with two spouts. Then I thought of a young mother with twins. And then….the way was clear. I hope I have not given offence.

The piercing pattern was chosen as a further exploration of the effect of movement on negative space. Frank Cummings III created pierced vessels evoking childhood memories of carousels, with undulating rim waveforms reflecting his love of music, and rotating Frank's vessels had a stroboscopic effect. Arthur Jones also used movement with negative space in his Black Hole series, where light passing between numerous close-spaced wooden rays flickered as one walked around the sculpture. In Tea for Two one can see the same stroboscopic effect of light on the form as it rotates. Look through the form, rather than at it, and you will see this.

Song sung by Pink Martini.
