At the crossroads of wood, glass and abstract art, this embellished vessel is inspired by Bill Luce’s quest for simplicity, which he achieved in the pursuit of the perfect form. The glass-like finish highlights the form of the vessel, while different shades of rectangles evolve from pure black to the natural colour of the wood. They are laid out simply, but nevertheless in a manner to surprise the eye–as Bill did with his forms. The outlines of the rectangles are drawn with an ink pen. Successive layers of different shades of black are painted separately between two layers of varnish. Two final coats of varnish give it greater depth.

This piece is a tribute to Bill, who inspired so many of us to be creative.
