About Tom Hale:
Born and raised in Southern Ohio, I attended both Kent State University and Ohio University. I took art classes at both but graduated Ohio University with a BS in in Computer Science and a BA in English. After decades of only dabbling in the arts in the most superficial ways, I started woodturning
around 2010.

Initially I worked on pens and other crafts but around 2016-17 I started refocusing my efforts on more art pieces. In 2020 I had a piece juried into the POP exhibit and in 2022, '23, and '24 had pieces juried into the AAW member exhibitions. I was featured in the August 2023 AAW Journal Member’s Gallery and was the artist of the month on the WOW website for November 2023. I’ve had numerous pieces featured on both the WOW and the AAW website. I’ve done demos for my local club and helped Ron Campbell organize and run the Campbell’s Hands-on Retreat from 2015 through 2023. My current works incorporate turning with a wide variety of woods, other organic materials, generous amounts of carving and a wide variety of surface treatments.
